Coastal or coast is a word that defines where the land meets the sea. There are plenty of places that can be considered coastal. New Zealand, Australia, Hawaii, Mexico, Florida and other places are considered coastal because they have land that meets the sea. There are different ways to refer to coastal locations. A pelagic coast is one that fronts the open ocean rather than a gulf or bay.
Coastal can sometimes refer to lakes or rivers because land meets water. Businesses that are on the coast are often going to have clothing, souvenirs and other items that symbolize the area they are in. For instance shops might have sea shells, bathing suits, dive gear, surf boards, and other items people would want or need while near the water.
