Non profit typically refers to a type of organization. Non profit means that the company is not distributing its surplus funds to the owners or shareholders. Instead the funds are used to pursue goals of the organization. Trade unions, public art organizations, and charities are all types of non profit organizations. Often times non profit organizations get their funding through donations and the owners. The mission is to offer an effective product or service.
Many times the non profit organizations are trusts or cooperatives in which large funds are provided to the foundation for use. A lot of the time these organizations are based on volunteer workers, with minimal paid employees. The idea is to help those who need it by offering services they can afford.
